(11/08/06)  The zoning case passed City Council today.  One of the things we were able to accomplish from a few weeks (or months) ago, with the support of Councilmember’s Koop and Rasansky, was getting less homes of what we hope will be better quality immediately across the alley way and heading east. In short, rather than 252 homes consisting of town homes and condos, we will get no more than a 140 homes that contain no condos on the 17.6 acres on the parcels that used to be Tracts A & B (now combined into Tract A: there is no B tract anymore).

There is still work to do in getting development plans reviewed and then approved. This will no doubt entail more negotiations, but the ground rules have been put in place.

(6/01/06)  City Plan Commission Meeting:  The Task Force had four representatives that attended, and along with our coalition, three neighbors to the north of the site showed up and voiced support for the project. However, the neighbors to the north asked the CPC to endorse staff recommendations on the height limits (50 feet) on tracts D and F, even though Provident had previously worked this out with them. The Task Force asked the CPC to consider keeping the heights as drafted and approved by the coalition. The CPC did not get all the docs by the time of the hearing, and have delayed final decision until June 22. The Task Force hopes to convince our Plan Commission to keep the heights and the landscape plans, as drafted, in place. Although the heights may not be completely taken advantage of by the developer, it is better quality or longer lasting construction if they do go up. The Task Force has drafted a better landscaping idea than what staff recommended. Neighbors are encouraged to contact the Plan Commission and encourage support of the Task Force recommendation.

(5/30/06)  Message from John Baker:

The Meadows Board met with the Task Force on Tuesday May 23 at 5:30. Over the past three years, we have seen many renderings and plans of the proposed Development by Provident at I-75 and Walnut Hill Lane but the written documentation was never sufficient enough to ensure the development would look like any of the renderings.

Since early this year, the Joint Task Force of The Meadows, Glenn Lakes and Windsor Park has made great progress, negotiating with the developer. At this meeting we covered various aspects of the detailed documentation. I can speak for the entire Board to say we are proud of the efforts and countless hours put in by the dedicated members of TMNA Task Force.

By now, hopefully all of you have read through the deed restrictions. This is part of the zoning change request and will be presented to the Neighborhoods on Tuesday, May 30 in the Hillcrest High School Auditorium at 7:00. There will be a vote taken by the Neighborhoods of The Meadows, Glenn Lakes and Windsor Park.

After the presentation on the 23rd, by Eric Anderson, the recommendation to the Board was support for this zoning change request, contingent on the appropriate documentation accompanying the updated application the developer planned to file on Wednesday June 24th. A motion was made and seconded to support the recommendation. The attending Board members voted unanimously in favor of this motion.

(5/30/06)  A meeting of The Meadows, Glen Lakes, and Windsor Park homeowners was held to discuss and vote on the proposed development at Walnut Hill and Central Expressway (Lakeside Apartments). There has been substantive progress in the negotiations with the developer since our last meeting. The Task Force described the proposed development and asked for votes. Ballot holders (live within 500 feet of the development) were asked to bring their ballots to the meeting.

(2/21/04) Proposed Retail Center at Walnut Hill and Central Expressway.  As many of you are probably aware from the article in the Dallas Morning News on February 18, 2004, developers are planning to build a 42 acre, 600,000 square feet retail complex at the current location of the Lakeside at Walnut Hill apartment complex.  Details of the proposed complex are still unknown, however it is important that our community make its voice heard in the upcoming process.  Make sure that you are on the neighborhood email signup list so that you don't miss any important announcements and keep your eye here for updates.
